EASTERN SPECTACULAR TOUR

Day 1: Drive north-east to Adiyaman, 153kms north of Gaziantep, to check in to your hotel. After lunch travel by minibus to Nemrut Dagi to view the stupendous colossal statues, lions and eagles on top of Mt. Nemrut (2150 metres) at sunset. Remember to take warm clothing, as when the sun sets the temperature drops rapidly. It is also very windy on top of the mountain. Overnight Adiyaman.

Day 2: You will be driven south-east to Sanliurfa and nearby Harran today (48kms from Sanliurfa) to visit the extraordinary beehive-shaped houses dating back to biblical times. The prophet Abraham lived here for some time. You will also see ruins of the world's largest ancient Islamic University. After a typical spicy lunch in Sanliurfa, tour this fascinating city including the old bazaar, the magnificent Holy City complex including the cave where Abraham was reputedly born, and the Pool of Abraham full of sacred carp and surrounded by exquisite 17th century architecture.

  • Hereke, famous for its top quality silk carpets, renowned throughout the world for their beauty and quality, and these carpets fetch the highest prices in Istanbul’s bazaars. Most of the rugs adorning the palaces in Istanbul were woven in Hereke
  • Iznik, ancient Nicea, with its ancient walls and four great gates still largely intact. Iznik was the ceramic centre of the Ottoman Empire during the 16th and 17th centuries, and most of the imperial mosques in Istanbul such as the Blue Mosque and Suleymaniye Mosque were ornamented with exquisite tiles made in Iznik.
  • Bursa with its Koza Han, the silk cocoon caravanserai, with shops selling beautiful silks and brocades.
